Holler ! Basketballer!

I love basketball.  Next to running, it's my favorite sport.  I can even handle watching it from time to time on TV with out getting too ADD.  The game moves fast, and athletes who are good at it demonstrate both athleticism and intelligence.  That is, athletes who are not currently high school girls.  Now, before getting too blustery about my criticism and sexism, let me make my point.  I don't mean just any HS girls.  There are some great HS athletes, and I enjoy watching them play, but the HS girls I watched tonight, confirmed the stereotypes given to all the rest of us past. present, and future players, and consequently, made it harder to escape from beneath their weight.
What I just witnessed for two very long hours, was a brawl with a ball on a basketball court.  Girls were going down left and right.  In fact, some of them spent more time on their butts than their feet.  Rather than move around their opponents they tried to run through them, as if that extra step one way or the other would have been too much work.  It was entertaining in the Jerry Springer sense, but not very athletic.  Meanwhile, the refs tried to out do one another in the "most bizarre call" contest.  At least the fans kept it to a minimum.  Scantily clad, skinny white boys getting their groove on was the most excitement there.  They actually gave the "cheer leaders" (another questionable athletic group) a run for their money.
Oh the joys of high school...
